Silent is Murder

Many of us probably have heard of or seen the words "Darfur" but not too many people know what it is. Darfur conflict is one of the most complex crisis that related to race in Sudan. The above image is drew by a Sudan kid in Darfur. You can see how horrible the situation is there.

It is so sad to see the conflict starts about race and religion. Haven't people learned from all the history? The kids are innocent. They know nothing about the war and they harm no one. However, they have been brought to this world to suffer. 看到這裡，真的很難過，想到我們在學校，很努力的辦活動，教育同學有關種族問題和文化了解，可是這世上還是有那麼多的問題，卻有那麼多的人袖手旁觀，雖然他們自己沒有做出什麼傷害人的事，但是他們也沒有去阻止問題的發生，very sad. SO PLEASE TAKE ACTIONS!!!! THERE ARE DIFFERENT WAYS YOU CAN HELP THE ISSUE!!

Gods of Chinatown

African Leadership

This organization is found by two of the Southwestern Co. alum. The idea of African Leadership is to bring Lord Jesus Christ to their lives and help them to cope their difficulties (many of them related to HIV/AIDS). I remember I was watching the video over the summer introducing African Leadership. This woman gave birth to a little girl while having HIV. She named her child Hopeless because she knows this little girl has no future with the desease. However, African Leadership introduce her to God and prayer. She then changed her daughter to Hope because now they have new motivation to live. It's amazing to how religion helps people in different ways.

Fact about HIV in Africa
*24.5 million people were living with HIV at the end of 2005 in Sub-Saharan Africa and *approximately 2.7 million additional people were affected with HIV during that year.
*In South Africa and Zambia, around 15-20% of adults are infected with HIV
*Countries like Swaziland (33.4%), Lesotho (23.2%) and Botswana (24.1%) have more than 20% of people affected by HIV
*There are over 14 million children under age 16 worldwide who have been orphaned by AIDS and about one million are in Ethiopia.
*There are more than 30,000 children die in Africa because of HIV

National MS Society

Windows Live Messanger has this new campaign that if you post a little logo in front of your name on MSN, whichever organization you choose will be donating money every time you chat. Cool thing is there is no up limit.
I started to go through what my friends have chosen. Most of them are for Red Cross, UNICEF, or StopGlobalWarming.org. I am very surprised that no one choose the ones for refugees and MS. I think that is because people don't know anything about it.

One of my friend's mom from freshman year diagnosis with MS and have been suffered for years. We joined (well.. she started) the MS society chapter in our school and we raised money for the society. Because most people don't know about it, there aren't much research money goes into it. It is extremely expensive to get treatment. However, MS may affect 2.5 million individuals worldwide. It is serious!
